2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 [5], 2011 [2].

Thought it’d be interesting to put up a… character “evolution” thing of sorts for Urz. Urz first showed up in 2005 or thereabouts, in written form - a side character in a stupid story I was writing at the time. At the time she didn’t have a gender (arguably still doesn’t, but I’d prefer “she” as opposed to the default “he” that folks assume gender-neutral pronouns or “it” to mean). She didn’t really start appearing in any art until 2006 or 2007, becoming the sass-basket she is today around 2010 / 2011.

Urz started off as a Dement’tian by the name of Cerdis’beroh’nus (I thought apostrophes were cool then). “Urz” was just a simpler name that the local natives, known as the Yanam, called her by. In regards to the Yanam, *legend* went that as Cerdisberohnus [he] became jealous and killed [his] four heart-brothers out of spite, beheading each one until he himself was caught and beheaded by a shaman, after which [his] head went missing. All five angry souls tumbled to Kramacka where they fought and destroyed the throne of Y’vamagol, who then bound them all together in a single body and planted it before the Gates of Damnation, where Dement’tia rests.

I can’t remember when I drew this. Eons ago. The *absolute original* drawing for Cerdisberohnus is buried somewhere and hell if I’d want to dig that awful thing up. This is by and large what the original looked like anyway. She had two forms, this one, and another that is pretty close to her 2007 design. I never actually drew it beyond a single sketch that was too light to actually scan, but I did attempt to redraw it x-number of years back (maybe 2010 or something) in a bid to imitate my old drawing style:

Urz and Cerdisberohnus are separate entities now; Cerdisberohnus is still Dement’tian while Urz has been moved to Hell, but she does get to revisit her conceptual roots as a Dement’tian during IO’s main arc. While Cerdisberohnus’ origin legend didn’t change, Urz was given a new origin story for the Yanam, being that she either found the body of or murdered a hero in the desert and stole his skin. Some extra stuff from 2011 or around there:

Urz’s role in IO (and a number of other storylines) has changed innumerable times, though at this point her role in IO is pretty much solidified. Human beings would know her as the Snake / the Serpent present in the Garden of Eden, tempting Adam and Eve to bring Gabriel out of hiding. If she happens to romp about on the mortal plane, she’ll most likely show up in Russia. She speaks Latin backwards and if she does happen to entertain English, she does so with a heavy Russian accent. When she talks, her voice fluctuates between female, male, old, and young, generally sounding as though two or more people are speaking at once; when angry all four qualities will mash together and will gain a heavy hissing sibilance.
