Nasty Things

Trying to do some greyscale painting again. Been super nervous to give this a go as it’s been a long while since I did any lighting studies and I’m still really, really intimidated by lighting. Initially tried to shade this in colour but that fell apart super fast. Colour + light in practice is still just utterly beyond me. I can understand it when I see it in a photo or someone else’s work, but when I try to apply that to my own work it just ceases to make any sense. But I really want to learn how it all works. I’ve been pulling up my older object studies as I’ve been working on this to remind myself what I’ve learned so far. Good grief I was so lost when I started.

I’m not as confused - things are starting to make some actual sense. I don’t want to leave this for tomorrow but I might have an interview and I can’t be a zombie for that. I aim to ace this tomorrow.
